Chester French @ SummerFest 09

So last Thursday I only had to work a half day for which I was very grateful not just because I got out in time to pick up those laser etched skateboards before laser Ink closed. No. That early release allowed meto get downtown in time to see Chester French perform at 7 o'clock on the miller stage. If you still need to get familiar with CF they are a duo of Harvard graduates who signed to Pharrell's label Star Track their senior year of college. D.A., the front man from Milwaukee, WI, and Max, the instrumentalist from Boston.

Their versatility in style points towards a raw passion for music as a whole and their feature list shows that these guys are the real deal. With names like Talib Kweli, Jada kiss, Common, Bun B, Pusher T, Pharrell, and Jermain Dupri making guest appearances on their FREE album you better believe that somebody somewhere thinks these guys are the next big thing. And I second that opinion.

With D.A.'s charisma on stage and Max's fluent transition from guitar to anything else he wants to make a sound, Chester French's live performance is one to be envied. They played hard like a main act no matter what time slot the summerfest booking agents put them at.

(I think they went on early to get out in time for no doubt, smart move)

After their set D.A. made him self available to is local friends and fans alike by spending near an hour at the merch booth signing autographs and taking pictures.It was clear that this meant a lot to concert goers who are always left chanting for encores but never get them on the summerfest grounds.

All in all it was a good show, with good material and a group of good fans.

lead singer D.A. being from "Milwaukeee" is just the icing on the cake because this is the best mixtape I've heard in recent years due to its seamless transitions, themes, and story line. It's clear that these guys put some time and thought into this one.
