download JUNEBUG new mixtape from Haz
Just Came out today. JUNEBUG is the latest installment of ear candy Haz Solo.
His name is HAZ Solo and June 14 1983 is the day that wack producers loath and real creatives herald. This summertime blast of beats will make you move no matter where you are. Haz wastes no time in showing us that he's not afraid to be different with his slightly of kilter drum patterns on SUN DIAL.
AHT UH MEYE HED makes you want to sit and ponder. What, I don't know exactly. I guess what ever is on your mind. Haz follows this up quite nicely with the smiley DAY AT THE BEACH and if you are doing anything other than grinning from cheek to cheek after hearing that interlude you should be slapped and served anti-depressants.
ON MY MIND, OFF MY CHEST takes a Dilla-esk turn into the strange and clever world of the unexpected. It marks the beginning of a mood change in the mixtape because we all know June brings both sunshine and thunderstorms.
CHANGE OF SEASONS continues this slightly aggressive tone while remaining fundamentally enjoyable. However the sample can seem a bit repetitive after the third phrase - easily fixed by adding any talented vocalist laying down sounds on the track.
JUNETEENTH brings us back to the lighter side of things with an up beat tune to celebrate freedom. I can almost see all the slaves jiggin to the rhythmic ooh ahhh of this one.
The stereophonicly mesmerizing CRUIZE CHIPS will put you in a place where no one can reach you. It sound like what it feels to ride a bike on the lake front with no hands under a piercing blue sky with half a melted Mario Bubble gum nose ice cream.
DON'T HAVE MUCH (time) brings back memories of the wondering the block with the buddies as the street lights flicker on. The Days end always seems to mark the beginning of an adventure calling for you to hurry up.
MONTH TO MONTH doesn't carry the same umph as most of the mixtape but if you're just barely getting by this summer maybe umph isn't what you need. Listen to this track twice and just chill out. I bet you'll feel a little bit better.
Picking up after the shout out to vinyl records at the end of month to month DEDICATED TO... plays with that familiar crackle and pop of the needle on wax. With a tempo change mid way through this one will stick with you as a favorite.
SPACE TRAVELS is a cool look up at the June night sky illuminated with stars and neon signs alike. A funky break takes us back to another time of exploration and familiar sounds.
Reminding us of his slight narcissism, Haz throws in DID YA MISS ME? Greeting us through samples, Haz tells us that we should be smiling when we see him like any old relative that visits on summer vacation. Oh and there is a hilarious sample at the end but I wont ruin it for you, just listen.
CORNERSTONE CORNER STORE revisits the unique patterns Haz has come up with in his beats with a dash of chip monk vocals.
THE "I GOT FOOD" DANCE song quite literally makes me want to stop writing this review and go to my mothers BBQ so that I can do a "I GOT FOOD" dance to the 20 some second break down featured in this one.
Haz continues his summer time feel with IT'S SO EASY and LIBRARY CARD sports a lovely melody of some pretty old school drums. However I can't pretend to get the names of either one of these. I'll be asking Haz about that.
By now you should be well acquainted with June Bug but if not then THE BUDDY SYSTEM might be a little awkward and leave you puzzled wondering what affect do gold chains have on a person when worn in abundance.
MELTED POPSICLE fells like dancing with that special someone you've had a crush on all year for the first time and MEMORIES is where you immediately place it in your book of "I can't believe that actually happened, smile then sigh".
If you can't tick, tut, pop, or lock then you should practice be for you hear EMPTY SQUIRT GUN because the first thing you'll want to do is battle on the dance floor with its energetic cadence and boom bastic drums. If you hear this and you can't dance you should leave the party immediately. Just tell your friends you got an important phone call or something and no one will be the wiser.
Haz signs off with REST IN POP. A Take on the tragic news of Micheal Jackson's passing and a tribute of sorts to his life. The most appropriate way to end a summer themed Mixtape in 09 as this event along with these songs will continue to rock all of our seasons
And yes, if you love Donuts you will also love JuneBug.
